Guiding
Star Rebekah Lodge #4 was instituted in Mountain Home on
November 19, 1887
.
At that time, our community was in
Alturas
County
and
Idaho
was still a Territory.
The
number 4 in our name indicates that we are the fourth Rebekah Lodge to
be instituted in
Idaho
.
We are proud to be one of the oldest fraternal organizations in
continuous existence in Mountain Home as well as in the state of
Idaho
.
We
are organized under the Grand Lodge of Idaho, Independent Order of Odd
Fellows and our original Charter is a most unique item.
It is hand written in its entirety and signed by Brother D.L.
Badley, who was the Grand Master of Idaho at that time and Leon Field,
the Grand Secretary.
During
the early years, we were known as the Daughters of Rebekah and later on
our name was shortened to Rebekahs. Our name was derived from the
Biblical character Rebekah, who was known for her loyalty, unselfish
benevolence and kindly manner.
Originally
designed as the female branch of the Odd Fellow Order, the Rebekah
branch is now open to both men and women of good moral character who
have a belief in a Supreme Being, the Creator and Preserver of our
universe, are faithful to their country and are at least 16 years of
age. You do not have to be
affiliated with our Order to become a member.
During
our 120 year history in Mountain Home, our members have accomplished
many good deeds as we carried out the mandates of our Order and gladly
accepted every opportunity to serve our community with Friendship, Love
and Truth.
